Metro Melbourne is back in lockdown, thankfully regional vic are not but gee it's a worry. The shops
are looking bare in fact I went to aldi for air fresheners for the house about 4pm today and the entire meats and dairy section were so empty they had their blinds down on them. I was shocked! Anyway I bought my air fresheners and the checkout lady laughingly commented 'no toilet rolls with that, you must be my first today!"

Eldest is at a sleepover and I'm happy for him, it's a lovely family. Youngest is here and excited for his birthday party tomorrow (3 friends at trampoline place) my house is spotless, hubs and I worked so hard today to get it totally reset. Tomorrow morning we will just blitz the veranda and then enjoy it! Who knows what work will bring for me next terms but hubs has realised that I can't do it all if I'm working full time.

Looking to buy a new caravan. Our ski trip 2020 and ourGold Coast trip 2021 have been cancelled due to coronavirus. Having a bigger van  gives us flexibility to be able to go away for a weekend and being self-contained means we meet the requirements of some of the new restrictions.  We have seen
a van that we like  and are hoping to get my finance approved soon.

Weekly news and weigh in

114.5kg

School holidays!

Our ski trip has been cancelled. Ther isn't enough snow on the mountain, first time we've had this Trouble early in the season. We are trying to reschedule for during the term.

We did an IKEA trip to sort out eldest sons bedroom. He keeps it tidy and we want to get our heads
around a more grown up space for him for high school a bit of an oasis of calm for him. Currently wading through the flat pack.

I've been off my kilter with keto, just cravings galore for take away hot chips. Goodness it's been hard!

Today I have a list on my iPad of jobs to do in the next few days but I also want to get into the veggie garden and plant some veggies I got a Bunnings  reduced
6x kale for $3
6x Punnet of bok Choi, wombok and something else  for $3

Kale I'm taking a punt with, it's not a veggie we Buy but I've seen a lot of keto people make keto chips with it so for $3 it's Worth a gamble. The Asian Punnet will be used in some sort of stir fry I imagine

Tonight we had burgers for dinner with cheese, onions, beetroot on low carb buns from Aldi. The boys had normal buns and so,e oven chips too with a jelly I'd made yesterday afterwards. They were happy and so were we.

Tomorrow (friday) will be a leftovers day. In the fridge I have
Tuna fritters
Butter chicken
And a chicken breast stuffed with cheese

Friday...
Today I will
Cook the chicken in the fridge  - done

Hard boil some eggs
Quick tidy up in living areas - done
Washing on and drying in lounge room - done
Put youngest clothes away - done
Thorough tidy in laundry room
Wrap youngest birthday presents (or at least start)

Finally I'm back

Gee talking about losing your blogging mojo! I suppose it's a combination of not doing anything much and not really having anything to talk about.

I got back on the low carb train. I think it was the fright of going back up to 120 that kicked me into gear. Weigh in later today (im still in bed) I'm working full time for the net fe weeks so a Sunday weigh in is better for me in terms of time on Monday mornings.

Kids are fine
Animals are fine
All is good.

When I go in today I'm hoping to be 118 something.

I've taken up a few hobbies
Polymer clay earring making
Learning Braille

Starting again

So I guess we are going to start again today I will stick to eating good food. Move the Easter chocolate out of the kitchen so I'm not constantly seeing them. Write the days meals on the whiteboard so I'm  not always opening cupboards to see what's for the next meal. Be good!

In other news

I will plant the leeks in the veggie garden
Make animals nets to stop rabbits / kangaroos from eating the plants

I've completed the Joe Wicks exercise very videos with my boys. Its intranet forth empower me exercising as well. I can't poach about doing it then not bother myself. So far thermally been 1 individual exercise I haven't been able to do as it strained my back., I just did a different exercise while the boys did that.

My goal while in isolation...just keep the numbers going down, doesn't matter by how much!

Veggie garden

It's  long since been a plan of mine to have a decent veggie garden. One with irrigation and a plan.
This week with time on our hands we've set to work transforming a section of the garden we had aside as a little playground for when our kids were younger into my much anticipated veggie garden!

The cubby has been dismantled, restained and will now become my tool shed. The sand pit dismantled and will be the base for the tool shed. The worm farm will come and join my veggie garden. Our chicken tractor will be tidied up and fixed and then become a living area for some new chickens ( we usually get a new collection of chickens around March time but obviously everyone is out buying chickens at the moment)  The soil delivery is coming on Friday, before then we have a few essential jobs so that the delivery can get as close to where we want it as possible if I remember to take my phone outside tomorrow I'll grab a photo.

Jobs today
Clear access for delivery
Lay bed for tool shed
Plan design for garden
Get some winter seeds into grow (eldest requested sugar snap peas)
Open edging of veggie garden up so delivery truck can get in as far as possible

Little savings

I haven't been for coffee for ages but I have sorted through all my bags that often come for coffee with me. Some went in the op shop pile, some wet to the washing machine and some were neatly returned to the box I keep my handbags in.

I did however take all these sugar sachets out. I never take them unless they come oon the side of my saucer. I emptied them all into my sugar jar and filled it to the top! That's a little saving I can get on top of these days!

Weigh in Week 10

Im doing okay right now. It's been a busy week and I've had work every day. If we go into isolation for coronavirus I do have concerns about what that might mean for my Weightloss and if I'm able to keep it going okay, like everyone it will be hard if we run out of essential food, but we are gong to keep active, keep busy and make the most of it!

I think as a family we will have some sort of gym set up, our two boys are very physically active so I know they need that to be nice people :) my husband and I just need the exercise and Weightloss that comes with it so it's a good chance to do it as a family.

School closures

well finally they have seen sense and are closing schools from Tuesday.

I'm so glad, we really need to get on top of the spread of Covid-19.
Schools don't have enough tissues, hand soap or sanitiser and teachers are bringing their own in from home to keep the classroom clean. It's not fair and let's face it the supermarkets are empty when we go shopping because it's all been bought during the day!

Anyway, I'm happy to have my kids at home, in fact I can't wait!

Decluttering

Another 3 bags heading to my car for the op shop.

This has some toy cars, clothes, lots of shoes and tonnes of .books. I'm hoping to drop them in after coronavirus has left us.

Weightloss

I've never been one to jump on the scales at every opportunity.
I'm a regular once a week lady, I don't feel like a daily weigh in would help my motivation...I like to see big numbers!

Motivational ski pants

I saw in a sale a little while back a pair of ski pants in size 20 they were half price and a real bargain. I bought them  I'm in love!
However, they are a bit too small so I'm using them as motivation for the upcoming crisis ,to keep myself I n check that I need to carry on as usual with my Weightloss. I've seen plenty of memes on facebook about eating all your isolation snacks in the first few days of isolation  and whilst humorous no doubt convey Some people's reality...but It won't be mine!

Keto lunch

Yesterday I was home alone https://www.swimparkas.com.aut the kids. Hubby had gone to do a first aid course. They kids onlY wanted toast for lunch as they had eaten some pikelets for morning tea.

I needed something a little more substantial however! 2 low card toast with lashings of butter, avocado smashed with a little red onion and pepper and 2 delightfully  fresh poached eggs. Gee I was full after but goodness it was lovely. All washed down with a bucket of coffee.

Coronavirus preparedness

whilst I'm not a ,toilet roll stocker I do feel like with current events and the media that we might be heading towards school closures in Order to get on top of corona virus, it wouldn't surprise me if it was around the school holidays.

Last night as I lay in bed trying to sleep my mind was racing around our needs for if we did have a 2 week exaclusion period.

My list was fairly short but Nevertheless full of items I feel our family would need.

Cream
Butter
LL milk
Cereal
Bread for kids in freezer
Toilet paper
Ibuprofen-
Paracetamols was
Dog food X 2
Cough sweets
Lemsip
Frozen vegetables

I think I might start to add some of these to our panty / freezer when I go to the supermarket on Thursday or Friday.

Prepping for camp

With eldest sons Nike camp only a month away we went looking for a 65 l back pack for him. For this 3 day hike he will need to carry everything he needs to a maximum of 1/4 of his weight. He currently is 40 kilos.

So his Scout leader met us at the shop and fitted him and talked us through the important elements.

Adjustable size so it will do for a few years
Hip pads so the bag rests on his hips NOT his shoulders
Has a rain cover that he uses ALL the time which keeps his pack clean and dry
65l in size

The cost of the bag was $160 however scouts get 10% discount at this store. Our unit has booked a 20% discount night so the manager said that she would honor the 20% discount if we bought it today, which we did.

Weigh in Week 8

Not much  exercise this week, can't wait until the local pool opens again.
Been a little bit of carb creep this week.
Probably had too many compliant donuts this week
Massively sweet tooth I'm fighting off here, feel like I may be due my period

This number is actually quite a surprise.  I feel like I've been naughty, I feel like I've cheated but I guess the reality is my cheats have been compliant. Sugar free lollies and sugar free donuts.

Gold Coast savings

A little while ago I had listed some school uniform for sale online. Thankfully yesterday I got a text message from a lady asking to buy it.

4x long sleeved tops
1x sports jumper

$55 in my pocket and heading to the Gold Coast savings. I even dropped them off as the family lived literally 1 minute from school! It was a good reminder though that now is the time to be listing any other spare winter uniform.

Our upcoming week

It's an extra long weekend here. We have the usual long weekend for Labor day but then school has also got staff days on the Tuesday and Wednesday so my kids effectively have 5 days off! They are delighted and the fact it falls in the middle of the term is probably a good thing as it gives them a mid term break but it's a shame hubby can't take the days off too. Youngest has been invited to a birthday party on the Wednesday so eldest and I will go too as its at a trampoline park and he can have a good bounce as well.

Saturday we had to get a few things sorted for camp. Eldest needed a

65l back pack ($159) bought
 Trangier - probably from anaconda
Hiking boots ($150??) will buy in a couple of weeks when they have a discount event just in case his feet grow before then!
Sleeping bag suitable for hiking, one that goes to -5 degrees, has baffles for the Zips, ultra lite and compact - also going to look at anaconda for this
Cooking set - anaconda

That's basically 3 days work for me.

Also need to try out some pasta / rice packet mix items that eldest can carry and cook with him. This isn't food we would normally buy so popped to the supermarket to see what options were available. I picked up an oriental fried rice and a creamy bacon pasta on the were for 6 side portions. He will need to learn to cook the food and enjoy eating it!

Planning a trip to QLD

Easter 2021 we will be heading to the Gold Coast in an epic trip including the Theme parks.

I can't wait as I think the kids will love it and I've never been there and love finding new places and exploring.. We have a lot of saving to do for them and we also have a lot of planning and organising.

My current saving goal for my little bank account is $500, I add a little extra to it whenever I drive past and have money in my purse (minimum deposit is $2. I think the balance at the moment is around $140. Ideally I would like $3000 for spending money when we are in GC.... Any extra goes into it (birthday money, Facebook sales, loose change etc)

Credit card debt

Our current credit card debt is going to get a smashing this term.

We've decided that it needs to go and will be putting all my wages onto it until it has  disappeared. As of this morning the balance owing is just under $604.14. I know to some this is not a lot and to others it is  but honestly I hate being in debt of any kind!

My work is casual so we never know how much or how often I will get work but it was pretty steady last term so I'm hoping for the same again this term ands far it has been good. When I next get paid I will be clearing it straight away.

Until then I want to minimise my outgoing expenses.

No coffees
No takeaway (a really bad habit lately)
Eat from the freezer and pantry
If I'm not working much try selling on eBay / Facebook
Try to use fuel economically eg if in town get several jobs done and stay away the rest of the week!

Weigh in #7

Monday morning I had the worst headache I coild have imagined. I had stars in front of my eyes, it was getting so much worse. I'd taken panadol and it had made no difference at all. I was beginning to think it would not be safe for me to drive home from school drop off. My friend gave me 2 Advil, (ibuprofen) and within 20 mins it had made such a difference. My head was still sore but I could see clearly, think striaght and get on with my day. I came home and ate a fatty meal and lay down. I didn't sleep but I did close my eyes and rest. In the past I would have made coffee and reached for the tin of biscuits, this felt like quite a breakthrough. I'm listening to your body and giving it what it needs. Wednesday and Sunday morning saw the return of the headache, not as bad a be free but still worse then a normal headache. Goodness knows what's caused it.
This week I've been so good with food. I've had cake and cream twice (from and sat night)  but it's been compliant cake and very nice too. I've also made a huge chicken and veg curry which I split into 6 portions and froze. I used one of the Pete Evans jar sauces to make 3 meals for hubby, the Jamaican sauce was waaaaay too spicy for me so he can have this. Cooked off a pack of compliant sausages to have on nights with scrambled or fried eggs. 9 meals in the freezer and 8 sausages ready to add to meals. All is well! I'm hoping to crack 120 this week.

Kombucha

If you'd asked me 6 months ago what I thought of kombucha I'd have said I don't like it at all but recently I've worked out I only dislike certain flavours!

Like :
Raspbperry and lemon
Passion fruit
Mango
Lemon

Dislike
Anything with ginger (though hubby likes these)

On the fence
Apple - gees I've tied remind me of orchard cider, I'm not sur I'm a fan

Kombucha is naturally sugar free so complaint for LCHF. It tastes sweet so it's enjoyable as a softdrink. Hubby and I usually share one of these drinks the odd night we have. Hankering for soft drinks. Last night we had one each and they were lovely. These 2 were purchased from Aldi.

Weekend plans

I don't have any work booked for next week yet. I do prefer it when I know in advance... I'm hoping I get a message tomorrow.

My eldest is away on school camp towards the end of the week. So today I shall use the spare room to layout some of his kit list.

There is chicken in the fridge that I need to cook for a few meals that can be defrosted of an evening. Both hubs and I are struggling with dinners at the moment. We are not both hungry on the same night so it often transpires that one of us is fasting and cooking for one just isn't very enjoyable. So today I'm going to batch cook some meals that if we are hungry we can easily defrost and eat. I out some of
the PeteEvans stir in sauce meals a while back, some coconut cream curry, etc I would like 1 drawer of the freezer with things that are ready to microwave and one with things prepped for cooking...it's a plan anyway.

Since I ended up working most of last week I didn't get my housework list done so I also need to rack on with that andcross things off. I did manage the ironing and about 5 loads of laundry which are just decorating the lounge room on drying racks. It's one thing less to do today and means if the weather looks good I might strip the kids beds and give them a good wash and hopefully get the sheets back on before bed.

This week

I have work booked for This week
Monday:
Tuesday: all day
Wednesday: half day
Thursday:
Friday: part day

That's great for me, I'm keen to add a $100 to Gold Coast savings. My Current target is $500 I've just been emptying my purse of change every so often and paying it into the account. I think it's currently sitting around $130

My eldest goes for an interview at our preferred high school for him. I think I'm more nervous than him. Time will tell though, his friends will mostly be going in the days before him so it will be interesting to see what they all say about the experience during the week and how he takes it.

Meals this week for the kids
Monday : weekend leftovers - microwave
Tuesday: bolognese and pasta
Wednesday: bolognese and pasta - microwave
Thursday: home cooked meal
Friday: Subway

Weigh in #6

I i feel like it's been a good week. Nothing too naughty but a few bits and bobs to keep it working in real life. I've noticed my clothes seem to bit baggier, more room inside has been fabulous. My stomach is getting smaller, pants are doing  up better. I am telling myself I don't care if there is not loss on the scales this week because the loss is becoming visible to me in other ways (but mentally I sell want a lower number)

So that's down another 500g

Bringing my total weight loss so far to...9.6kg

Day in the life eating keto

Breakfast I had a coffee with cream, this usually keeps me going until 11/12ish. Cream is lower in carbs than milk and because of the high fatcontent keeps me fuller for longer

I'm working today

Lunch:

Some crust less quiche made with eggs from the chooks, a thinly sliced onion and chopped gammon left over from Christmas and a splattering of mixed herbs and cheese.

Dinner:
Steak, cauliflower cheese (no flour) and a low carb beer

Snacks:
Wasn't hungry by evening but I'd bought myself some low are pork scratching X and they re calling me from the pantry. They were delicious!

Mobile phones for kids

I'm looking at a low cost mobile phone plan for my eldest.

What do I want?
Free unlimited calls and texts
Good data coverage

Either a low cost monthly payment OR a comparable 6month / year plan
Ideally with the 6month or year plan I'd like the data rolled out over the period

I'd love some suggestions or other plans to look at for now I'm just starting the search.

NSV - non scale victory

A pair of black pants which didn't actually do up over my stomach now can be fastened and are comfy to wear.

They are a little tight in my thighs but my other black work pants feel like I'm in a circus tent so I definitely prefer the small size right now as I don't need to keep pulling them up as they have slipped down off my hips. I'm going to wear them with a size 20 top that was snug but now sits loosely over my hips and tummy. I'm excited to wear them for work tomorrow!

My Frugal Week

How did I save money this week?

  1. I got called in for work on Thursday and Friday so will get paid but also avoided a return trip in my car from home to my kids school
  2. Went to NQR and bought some snacks for lunch boxes that were down to 50c each
  3. I didn't buy takeaway for myself (although the kids had it twice due to not being able to go home before sports and them going to bed as soon as we get home.
  4. Using up lots of leftovers from the fridge and freezer
  5. No coffees out
  6. No unplanned spending

Hubs and I have $50 a fortnight for personal spending. Here is how mine was spent

$20 towards youngest soccer fees
$5 swimming pool entry for me (real price is $6.40 but they didn't have the right change so only charged $5)

So I still have $25 left for the week. I'm really happy with this. Next week I hope to have another swim. I won't plan to pay soccer fees but I will see what's left and either pay a bit more or put my leftovers into Gold Coast Savings.

Finding time to exercise.

Last night after school we had Swimming. Our usual venue has been closed since early December for renovations so we've been heading to various pools around town for training. Last night the weather was lovely so we went staight to the outdoor pool from school.

I'd packed my bathers too aiming to get a little light exercise in as well. By 4pm we were in the water which I must say was blissfully  warm. They boys and I played for a while, then one of them went to training. I played with the youngest for a while but then some other kids arrived and He played with them. I got out, my husband arrived and got in. I had my shower and hair wash at the pool. I watched my eldest training. Hubs swam with youngest for a while and then they got out and had their showers. We all went home tired, clean but feeling so good. Boys flopped into bed. I was happy I didn't still have to have a shower. Popped my PJs on and began to make lunch boxes!

Weigh in #4

My focus this week has been getting to my target of 7.5kg loss which means I'm aiming for a weight of 118.2kg. I don't have a date in mind but I'm plodding on and doing what i know works for me keeping 118 in my mind when I see something I want to eat that won't help me get there.

Ive made efforts to fast which i know really boosts my losses and my mental health.

things that have gone well this week...
fasting
Getting back in routine with kids sports
Having snacks planned
Taking meat out the night before so it can defrost for the next day

things that could have gone better this week...
forgetting to take a water bottle with me when i go out
not being prepared with snacks for the school run / kids sports

Loss this week - 1.9kg

Total loss so far 7.8kg

A little self care

Today, I'm going to give myself a little pedicure, smooth any hard skin, clip and paint toe nails and generally give a bit of self love. I told myself I could have a treat when I lost 5 kgs so here it is. In the past a treat might have been somewhat more self indulgent but this is frugal and will give me pretty toes at the end! No complaints from me.

I got these polishes from Kmart about a year ago cut and have the vibrant colours that my friends get when they go out for manicures ($25 a time)  but without the crazy cost. This year I will work through my polishes as they don't last forever and maybe pop some  on my Christmas list in 2020

Eggs

The chickens are laying like crazy! It a struggle to keep up at the moment. I've hard boiled a dozen to make curried egg mayo for lunches and today decided to have a fried egg on buttered low carb toast (still 27g per 100g!)  And then I poured all the buttery pan juices all over it which made it feel like fried bread!

But it was delicious! I think I may make it a weekend treat for myself. Toast was always a stumbling point for me so I need to be careful that this is not a regular thing!

But yum!!
